Viscoseal
What is Viscoseal®?
Viscoseal®:
- is designed to be used as a temporary synovial fluid substitute in arthroscopic surgery
- is an isotonic solution of hyaluronan (sodium hyaluronate)
- has a physiological pH
- has a 0.5% concentration of hyaluronan, which is similar to that in synovial fluid.
When is Viscoseal® used?
Viscoseal® is used for relief of pain and promotion of joint recovery in arthroscopic
surgery or joint lavage. Following arthroscopic surgery, Viscoseal® displaces any
irrigating solution left in the joint space and acts as a temporary substitute for the
synovial fluid, thus restoring normal physiological functions.
How does Viscoseal® work?
Viscoseal®:
- restores the lubricating, shock-absorbing and filtering properties of the synovial fluid
- re-establishes the protective coating of the surface of the cartilage and the synovial membrane
- reduces inflammation
- alleviates pain
- enhances the production of endogenous hyaluronan (produced naturally by the body)
